Zuma Fun Center

In 2008 I visited a Zuma Fun Center in northern Houston to ride their kiddy coaster Miner Mike but when we got there we found it down for maintenance. In 2012 that park closed and another branch opened in south-west Houston, moving the coaster down there.

So would I get to ride it the second time around?

The FEC (Family Entertainment Centre) contains an indoor arcade and bowling alley and a collection of attractions outside such as baseball pitching mounds, a go-kart track and the roller coaster.

This time it was operating but there was a kids party going on. The park does not usually allow adults to ride but Tal playing diplomat and showing our membership cards was able to arrange with the park that we could ride but only whilst the kids weren't.

Fortunately the kids got bored within 30 minutes and with no-one to annoy the park kindly allowed us to ride, albeit it one at a time.

To determine ride order we decided to play paper, scissor, stone which was trumped by the Germans trying to play well - a variation that us Brits weren't familiar with. Agreeing to play the 3-item version we did eventually get an order and even better we all managed to ride it without breaking it!

and that was Zuma, an FEC that could have turned us away but didn't. Thanks guys!
