Greeley Stampede

Our final stop of the day was the Greeley Stampede. A fortnight long series of concerts and rodeos in a small town north of Denver.

We'd gotten there quite late and rather than waste time finding parking close to the arena site we parked around quarter of a mile away in an unlit part of town. Fortunately Greeley was fine.

We knew that the showman Carnival America who was running the midway had four coasters but had no idea how many we'd find here at this fair. These were recently found by a friend Maria who found them running a fair in Texas I think.

The first coaster was a pesky go-gator. I asked the ride operator if we could ride this and she gave us the challenge that if we could fit in it we could. We agreed to come back later to see what else there was.

The second coaster was called Cobra and was an Orient Express variant. Yes, another kiddy coaster but as with the rest of this showman's ride, this is one that I don't think many had ridden which made it a little more interesting to us.

A nice job on the front of the coaster too.

The final coaster was a Wacky Worm, and it wouldn't be a fair without one. These are easily the most common coaster and I know I've ridden dozens of these.

A lot of the rides had long queues whilst the crowd waited for tonight's concert to begin (it was some country and western singer). The Starflyer had one of the longest queues and we did have to queue for each coaster.

Loving this statue.

So in order of riding the coasters, the wacky worm was first and we did have to ensure the little kids didn't push in front of us.

Second up was the Cobra.

and finally the Go-Gator, where we accepted the earlier challenge. I think we made the operators night as we squeezed ourselves into the seats. She couldn't quite get her head around why adults would want to ride this.

Elsewhere there was a good selection of rides. We didn't bother with any of them, partly because we'd seen all of these rides before but also due to the queues.

and that was the Greeley Fair. We were happy to have found the small number of fairs that we did on this trip, and this was the biggest. We were also really pleased that we managed to get all 3 coasters here.

So given the humour we'd given the operator I'm going to say that today's coaster was the Go Gator - there's no footage of it though.
