Worlds of Fun is one of the quieter parks in the Cedar Fair chain and doesn't get the same love as Cedar Point or The Kings suite but was a pretty good park from what I remember of being here in 2008.
The visit started with a rather strange security procedure. Bags were checked 30 metres away from the metal detector where the bag wasn't checked, leaving plenty of time to move anything metal from being on your person to in the bag.
Unlike SFSL the water here was great! Well done park. (yes it was going to be another hot day)
The boomerang was down perhaps as a precautionary move following the St Louis derailing, not that I was bothered - I didn't need to ride it, the others did.
Since the last visit the park had added a dinosaur park but it required an additional payment to enter, which I wasn't up for investing in. To me the dinosaurs could remain extinct.
However I was interested in riding the suspiciously named "Prowler" rollercoaster. I guess in it's wild animal definition it makes sense - I doubt they'd intentionally name it after a sex pest.
A nice touch was that the height ruler went all the way down to 1".
As for the coaster, which was announced after we'd visited it the last time, it's actually really good choosing to travel at speed close to the ground rather than losing it's inertia on high hills. With plenty of trees close by the feeling of speed is increased even more. Not the best wooden coaster on the trip but it was up there!
We had no issues with crowds today (the water park next door was working wonders) so we took the opportunity to ride in front and back, and this was rather special for Tal who hit his 1500th on this ride.
In there is one a tornado themed indoor dark ride, literally dark as it runs with the lights off. It's actually a lot of fun and got a lot of screams from the other riders.
They have an event called "Muttalica". If that's not a dog themed rock show I'd be very disappointed.
The others had to get the kiddy coaster. I actually let them go off and do their own thing. I was intending to make a very easy day.
Just a little bit sinister.
Mamba is the biggest coaster in the park, a large Morgan ride similar to Seaworld's Steel Eel.
I had a great time riding this in 2008 so definitely wanted to do it again on this trip.
It gets so hot there the brakes have their own sprinkler system to keep the temperature down.
The ride is still running very well and the operations are still doing their clap-clap-hiss launch routine before sending the trains out. One of the things that made the ride memorable last time.
Timberwolf is the park's other wooden coaster. It was quite rough last time and I don't know how it is now as I didn't ride it, but I couldn't imagine it improving over time.
I'd stick to Prowler...the ride that is.
That station does offer a good view of Mamba.
Patriot is the park's B&M inverted coaster and the paint has faded really badly. What was supposed to represent the red, white and blue now looks more like the pink, cream and cyan. I remember the ride had a yellow streak on it's belly, not sure what that has to do with patriotism and it's still there.
Spinning Dragon is the park's spinning coaster; I didn't ride it. Writing this up I'm realising I didn't do much today at all!
A terrible pun, which makes it a good one.
The park had jumped on the pokemon-go bandwagon offering the starting 4 as prizes in some of the rides.
Whilst leaving Prowler after a revisit in the afternoon we spotted guys working on the boomerang, and with everything having been ridden this was all that prevented Tal and Thomas from finishing the park off. It did open and they did get their rides, and they did get their headaches.
It looks like the turtle overdid it on the milk.
The park has an old carousel which was very good and very well maintained.
Overall I had deliberately taken it easy today, something I can easily do visiting the park a second time. The park is very good and my report doesn't give it the right credit. Prowler is great and running very well but some of the older rides need a lick of paint - Patriot more than the others.
