Heritage Square

Our second stop of the day took us to the west of Denver in the shadow of The Rocky Mountains for Heritage Square.

Before we'd even gotten into the park we had to run a gauntlet of warning signs telling us what we could and couldn't do.

The park has quite a spotted history starting out with some involvement from the people behind Disney but running into financial troubles from the outset. Some of the rides ended up going to Six Flags Over Texas. In 2015 it was announced that a big part of the park including some mountainside toboggans and these lovely looking buildings was to close. Unfortunately a lot of locals took that as meaning the full park had closed, which isn't the case. A lot of the rides are still operating.

I have no idea if "State Fair" is a good film or not. (Subsequent investigation is that it has a 6/10 IMDB score and features a soundtrack from Rogers and Hammerstein; I probably wouldn't like it)

The rides appeared to be in good condition and certainly showed little signs of the degradation seen over in the other side of the park.

We had 2 coasters to try to get here. The first one was another python pit coaster, which was operated by the youngest ride operator I think we'd ever come across; 13 apparently but he was very professional and let us ride with no problem, so better than some older ride operators we've encountered in our travels. I'm going to guess he's a second generation of someone else who works in the park.

The second coaster was another Miner Mike, which like the Python we'd ridden elsewhere on the trip. Again, we had no challenge with being allowed to ride this, just not all together.

So it was unfortunate that we only got to do the coasters and not the toboggans as we had planned to have a little competition on them, but we are very lucky to have gotten what we did given the troubles that the park are currently facing.
